Chromite
Chromite (FeCr₂O₄) is the main source of chromium, used in both metal alloys and foundry applications. In the automotive sector, chromite sand is used directly in casting engine blocks and brake components due to its heat resistance. Indirectly, it’s processed into chromium for stainless steel parts, high-temperature alloys, and chrome plating on trims and fittings.
